Corgi Die-cast Airplanes and Military Aircraft - Page 2

Corgi die-cast airplanes and military aircraft with wingspans over 10 inches are stocked very lightly due to normally lower demand, but occasionally some models are hot and sell out quickly.

Larger models on this page include the Boeing NB-52B with X-15 research aircraft, Boeing 707-327C, Braniff International Airways and  B24J 180-CO Liberator (Shack Bunny).

These fully assembled, true scale replicas are highly detailed for the most discriminating collector.  Most have fragile parts and are designed primarily for the serious collector, ages eight and up.

F4U-4A Corsair, BuNo 96845, VMF 323, USS Badoeng Strait, Korea, 1950
(1:72 Scale)
Corgi Model No. US33013 Wingspan 6.75 In.

The diamondback rattlesnake emblem applied to VMF-323 "Death Rattlers" Corsairs was one of the most distinctive markings worn by any American combat type in the Korean War.  It was relatively short-lived, however, and replacement aircraft sent to the unit during its time in action were not decorated in this way due to fears that the snake increased the aircraft's conspicuousness in the dense antiaircraft artillery environments which proliferated in Korea.

Parr flew a 185-mission tour with the 7th FBS in 1950-51, then returned to Korea to fly F-86s with the 334th FIS in 1953.  He wasted little time in making ace, scoring his fifth kill on June 18, 1953, and finishing his tour with ten kills total.  Having survived the Korean War, the final fate of this particular aircraft remains unrecorded.
