P-51D-10  Katydid - Lt. Col Elwyn Righetti, CO of the 55th Fighter Group, Wormingford 1945 (1:72 Scale) Corgi Model No. US32218  Wingspan 6.75 In.

King of the strafers, Righetti flew this machine for much of his brief time in the ETO.  Also coded CL-M and named KATYDID, this machine was shot down by flak during an airfield attack on Riesa/Canitz Airfield near Breslau, Germany, on April 17, 1945.  After belly-landing his Mustang Righetti radioed that he was OK and would see his fellow pilots in a few days.  Unfortunately, he was never seen again.  Speculation was that he fell victim to an attack by German civilians.  His final tally was 7.5 aerial and 27 strafing victories.

Westland Lysander MK.1 - L6877/JV-W, No. 6 Sq., RAF, Palestine, 1940
1:72 Scale,
Wingspan 8.5 In.  Corgi Model No. AA36802

No. 6 Sq. at Ramleh, Palestine operated a variety of aircraft and was using Hawker Hardies and Gloster Gauntlets when it received its Lysanders in February 1940.  Following problems in Palestine, the squadron had relocated there in 1938, reverting to the Army cooperation role.  It eventually left Palestine and started operations in the Western Desert with Lysanders in September 1940, although the squadron HQ remained in Palestine.  Gradually, Hurricanes replaced Lysanders in the tactical reconnaissance role, being fully equipped by June 1941.  However, in August, these were replaced by Lysanders and Gladiators, with some Blenheims and Hurricanes being added later, but all were removed again in January 1942 when the squadron assumed maintenance duties.

RAF S.E.5a - Lt. C. A. Lewis, B658 Nightfighter, No. 61 Sq., Home Defense, 1918(1:48 Scale) Corgi Model No. AA37701  Wingspan:  7 In.  NEW CASTING

The 3rd SE5 produced (A4563) became, in effect, the prototype S.E.5a, with a 200-hp Hispano Suiza power plant and shorter wingspan.  The S.E.5a went to No. 56, No. 40 and No. 60 Squadrons in June 1917 and by the end of the year Nos. 24, 41, 68 and 84 Squadrons had taken them on charge.  After troubles with the reduction gear of the Hispano Suiza, together with a general shortage of these power plants, the direct-drive Wolseley Viper became the standard S.E.5a power unit.  The S.E.5a built a fine reputation for strength, performance and general flying quality, which together with the Sopwith Camel were the main reasons for the Allies gaining and maintaining air superiority during 1918.  Some aircraft were fitted with four 25-lb. (11kg) Cooper bombs under fuselage racks.  The S.E.5a will always remain one of aviation's greatest warplanes.
